Purex, textured acrylic by Heidi Hodkinson. Hot red and dark blue; separation process of radioactive elements

An abstract textured acrylic of bright hot red balanced by dark blue and calming pale blue, based on the chemical solvent extraction process, known as ‘Purex’ (Plutonium Uranium Extraction) that takes place within a pulsed column to separate radioactive elements of used nuclear fuel.

This complex process requires the expertise from a range of disciplines, including nuclear physics, inorganic chemistry and chemical engineering.
